Confirmed Bitcoin Payments Hit Yearly Low During Holiday Season

Image
The number of confirmed daily Bitcoin transactions hit the lowest point in a year yesterday, confirming a period of decreased activity often seen during the holiday season. On Dec. 26, the number of confirmed Bitcoin payments dropped to 623,434, according to blockchain.com. Confirmed Bitcoin payments are irreversible once the blockchain network’s consensus mechanism accepts them and includes them in a block. The number of confirmed transactions is a valuable metric used for analyzing investor activity on the Bitcoin network. The drop in confirmed BTC transactions comes after the price of Bitcoin surged earlier this month, reaching an all-time high of $108,000 on Dec. 17. Over 857,000 confirmed payments were made on the same day, which is 37% more than yesterday’s 623,000. Following the drop in the number of Bitcoin transactions, analysts now expect a price recovery above $105,000 as the end of the holiday season nears. Binance settlement ‘net positive’ for cryptocurrency industry — Mike Novogratz

Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz believes Binance has satisfied regulators and users after its $4.3 billion settlement with United States authorities. Binance’s $4.3 billion settlement  with the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) is being hailed as a positive move for the company and the wider cryptocurrency industry , according to Galaxy Digital’s Mike Novogratz. In an interview with Bloomberg on Nov. 29, the CEO of the cryptocurrency investment firm expressed his belief that the high-profile settlement should assuage concerned investors and users of the global exchange: “I think they’re de-risked in lots of ways. People were worried about dealing with Binance. There’s a lot less to worry about now.” Novogratz also weighed in on the considerations for major investment firms dealing with exchanges, as well as traditional finance (TradFi) players, with regulatory oversight continuing to take center stage in the United States. BTC price bounces at 1-week lows as Bitcoin whales sell into $35K

Bitcoin drops $1,000 in just one hour as a cascade of liquidations greets late Bitcoin long positions. Bitcoin (BTC) tested $35,000 support into the Nov. 14 daily close as sell-side pressure sparked multi-day lows. BTC/USD 1-hour chart. Source: TradingView BTC price sheds $1,000 in an hour Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView tracked a swift retreat for BTC price action, which fell over $1,000 in a single hourly candle. The largest cryptocurrency found support at the $35,000 mark, this forming a springboard for a recovery to press time levels of around $35,600. The volatility came hours after what at first looked like a positive news event for Bitcoin and crypto — United States inflation slowing beyond expectations. At the same time, however, analysts noted that beyond smaller retail investors, there was little appetite for buying BTC at prior levels around 18-month highs. $BTC once again spot buying on long liquidations & deleveraging overall though still want to ...

Bitcoin futures data highlight investors’ bullish view, but there’s a catch

Image
The stars are lining up for Bitcoin price, but a few major price threats remain in play. Bitcoin (BTC) price surged by 26.5% in October and several indicators hit a one-year high, including the BTC futures premium and the Grayscale GBTC discount.  For this reason, it's challenging to present a bearish thesis for BTC as data reflects the post-FTX-Alameda Research collapse recovery period and is also influenced by the recent increase in interest rates by the U.S. Federal Reserve. Despite the positive indicators, Bitcoin price still remains around 50% below its all-time high of $69,900 which was hit in November 2021. In contrast, gold is trading just 4.3% below its $2,070 level from March 2022. This stark difference diminishes the significance of Bitcoin's year-to-date gains of 108% and highlights the fact that Bitcoin's adoption as an alternative hedge is still in its early stages. Before deciding whether the improvement in Bitcoin futures premium, open interest and the G...

Bitcoin exchange volume tracks 5-year lows as Fed inspires BTC hodling

Image
Bitcoin spot exchange trading volumes have disintegrated since March, while BTC price action has gone barely anywhere, research shows. Bitcoin (BTC) exchange s have seen trading volume collapse as traders deal with constant macroeconomic uncertainty. According to new research from on-chain analytics platform CryptoQuant published on Sept. 25, daily BTC volumes are at lows rarely seen since 2018. Fed keeps Bitcoin investors wary of “possible recession” Bitcoin price action has stayed in a familiar range for several months, and as time goes by, interest in transacting appears to be fading. CryptoQuant data, which tracks activity on both spot and derivatives exchange s, highlights the extent to which volume s have decreased since BTC/USD entered its current range in March. The past week saw between 8,000 and 15,000 daily spot exchange transactions — a fraction of the standard March daily tally, which exceeded 600,000. The last Bitcoin: What will happen once all BTC are mined?

Image
According to some experts, miners will always be essential to the Bitcoin ecosystem, even after mining the last coins. Satoshi Nakamoto mined the genesis block on Jan. 3, 2009, minting the first 50 Bitcoin (BTC) in history and kicking off what would become a billion-dollar industry centered around mining crypto. However, with a cap on Bitcoin supply, the fate of miners after the last coins are issued is unclear.  Bitcoin is created through mining, a process involving computer hardware to solve complex mathematical problems and verify transactions on the blockchain network. For their efforts, miners are rewarded with a predeter mined amount of BTC for each block of transactions. According to the Blockchain Council, more than 19 million BTC has been awarded to miners in block rewards, and according to Nakamoto’s white paper, only 21 million are available. Once this cap is reached, miners will no longer receive rewards for verifying transactions. Speaking to Cointelegraph, Nick Hansen,...
