SlowMist reports 80% of X comments related to phishing software

Cybersecurity company SlowMist analyzed social network X for malicious content. Scam sleuths came to the conclusion that over 80% of comments under publications of well-known projects are related to phishing software . In a report by SlowMist, scammers were found to be actively purchasing X accounts to use for scamming purposes. Users are usually sold in the Telegram messenger application, where there is an active market for this category of clients, experts claim. According to the study, attackers are typically offered a wide selection of accounts, among which there are accounts similar to the profiles of well-known crypto projects. Such a “product” may have a different number of subscribers and a long date of registration on the platform. After purchasing an account, scammers use advertising tools to increase trust on the social network. An “X Payments” account was seen on the social media platform on Jan. 19 as Elon Musk’s company continues to bag money transmitter licenses across the United States. While unconfirmed, the development would likely align with Musk’s vision for X, which he has repeatedly touted as a nexus for global financial activities since his $44 billion takeover in 2022.  Crypto analysts and speculators have pointed to digital assets being part of these plans, although Musk has noted that fiat transactions will primarily command engineering resources. Paranoid anti-vaxxers are buying fake COVID passes for bitcoin

Scam mers who fooled anti-vaxxers into paying up to $500 in bitcoin for dodgy COVID-19 vaccine passes have reportedly raked in more than $280,000 in crypto, reports WIRED.  Researchers at disinformation detection company Logically found over a thousand accounts on X (formerly Twitter) luring anti-vaxxers into Telegram channels where fake doctors attempt to sell various fraudulent medical documents.  Logically claims that the anti-vaxxer scam network, stretching back to at least June 2022, has reached over 3 million people, made 62,000 posts, and processed $286,000 in crypto. One Scam group reportedly sells COVID-related travel passes for anywhere between $250 and $500 in bitcoin .
