Bitcoin reaches highest monthly volume since September 2022

Ethereum suffered highest losses due to rug pulls and hacks, data shows

As per SlowMist’s latest research report, Ethereum experienced the highest losses, amounting to $487 million, followed by Polygon. According to the SlowMist report, a total of 464 security incidents resulted in losses totaling almost $2.5 billion in 2023. The figure marks a 34.2% decrease in losses compared to 2022, which saw slightly over 300 incidents that totalled $3.8 billion. Analyzing the project types, decentralized finance (DeFi) emerged as the most frequently targeted sector, experiencing over 280 security incidents in 2023, losses that constituted 60.7% of the total incidents. Analysts at market intelligence platform Santiment suggest that the Ether market may experience increased volatility, potentially leading to a recovery. Through an examination of Ethereum's (ETH) on-chain activity, market intelligence platform Santiment has published a report indicating that the count of daily active Ether addresses experienced a notable increase, reaching around 1,089,893 on Sept. 13. This recent upsurge represents the second -highest number of daily active addresses ever recorded in Ethereum's history . The highest count was registered on Dec. 9, 2022, aligning with Ether's reevaluation following its losses from the post-2021 bear market.
